In Chinese medicine, palpation is a primary tool used to evaluate, and diagnose a patient's condition. Palpation includes feeling the body's musculature, joints, and organs for tension, heat, cold, restricted range of motion, and pain. Pulse diagnosis is the palpation of the radial pulse on each hand to diagnose disharmony and dysfunction in the body.
It is said that acupuncture needles are just an extension of the hands. Once diagnosed, skillful hands are used to treat the condition. Fine, disposable needles are inserted into acupuncture points during treatment.
Other manual therapies may also be applied including Tui Na, and neuromuscular trigger point therapy.
Many methods are used in Chinese medicine from diagnosis, to treatment. Aside from manual therapy, and acupuncture needles, other modalities- cupping, gua sha, moxibustion, and e-stim can also be included in a treatment when indicated. All require a great deal of skill, and all are done by hand.
Prevention of disease and dysfunction is as important as healing from it. Regular acupuncture can keep the body in optimal health, and strengthen your immunity. If and when you do get sick, your body is able to heal faster with less complications.
When you do encounter dysfunction/pain, or disease, acupuncture treats the root cause, and symptoms. Treating the root of a condition also means it is a customized approach for each patient. Treating the root cause will also resolve other seemingly unrelated symptoms improving your overall health.
My goal as a practitioner is to provide you with the guidance, knowledge, and tools needed resolve your condition and also to stay healthy.
